Matt Groening is an accomplished Emmy-Award winning cartoonist/writer. His most famous works include the TV shows "The Simpsons" & "Futurama", and his weekly comic strip "Life In Hell". Born in 1954 (age 53) as middle child of five kids in a middle class family of Portland, Oregon. His mother, Margaret was a former teacher, and his father Homer was a filmmaker, writer, cartoonist, and advertiser. He attend Lincoln High School, later went on to attend The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. In 1977, at the age of 23, he moved to LA in pursuit of becoming a writer, he depicted life to his friends in a comic strip called "Life In Hell". Success came through one year later with his first professional sale of a comic in "Wet magazine". Eventually, Groening picked up so many readers from the underground publications that he was hired by the Los Angeles Reader. The growing popularity caught the attention of FOX producer James L. Brooks. While waiting the be called into his office, Groening quickly came up with the basic plot and idea of the popular TV show "The Simpsons" out of fear that "Life In Hell" would not be enough to land him a job. When he came up with the idea for "The Simpsons" he based most everything off of his family, and Portland, Oregon. Currently The Simpsons recently finished its 18th season on FOX, the season finale being the 400th episode, and "The Simpsons: The Movie" is to be released on July 27, 2007!
