Nobuo Uematsu
One of the best known video game music composers, Nobuo Uematsu has been at the musical helm for the majority of the Final Fantasy role-playing game series.
A self-taught musician, Uematsu-san learned how to play the piano when he was 12. He joined Square Co., Ltd. (now Square Enix Co., Ltd.) in 1986. The first Final Fantasy he composed the musical score for was Final Fantasy II (released in Japan only originally).
A prolific composer, his discography is quite extensive including games like the Romancing SaGa series, and the soon to be released Blue Dragon game for the Xbox 360.
More information, including his discography, can be found at his site Uematsu's Music.

Exactly! I loved his compositions from FF X especially. He would get better and better with every new game he worked on.
Wonderful music that makes a game really feel like you're a part of a production.
