Ted Turner
Ted Turner is a businessman from Atlanta Georgia, he is best known as the founder of the cable television network CNN, the first dedicated 24-hour cable news channel. In addition to CNN, he founded WTBS, which pioneered the superstation concept in cable television.
In September 1997, Turner announced his historic pledge of up to $1 billion to the United Nations thus creating the United Nations Foundation (UNF). UNF supports the goals and objectives of the United Nations to promote a more peaceful, prosperous and just world. He has owned many Professinal Sports teams in Atlanta, Georgia including the Atlanta Flames (NHL), the Atlanta Braves (MLB), and the Atlanta Hawks (NBA).
