The music is a strange mix of blues, jazz and eastern European folk music with just a touch of rock.

Tom Waits is considered the king of the alternative genre by many.

His musical career started in the 1970's and since the 80's, Waits has had a close working relationship with his wife, Kathleen Brennan. They live in California.
